What is a craft marijuana cooperative?

A craft marijuana cooperative is a marijuana cultivator comprised of residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and organized as a limited liability company, limited liability partnership, or cooperative corporation under the laws of the Commonwealth. A cooperative is licensed to cultivate, obtain, manufacture, process, package, brand, and transfer marijuana to marijuana establishments.

How does the cooperative structure work?

A cooperative is a business that operates consistently with the Seven Cooperative Principles (established by the International Cooperative Alliance in 1995) which include: open and voluntary membership, democratic member control, member economic participation, autonomy and independence, education, training, and information, cooperation among cooperatives, and concern for community.

As part of its positive impact plan, Greenjeans Farms has committed to the following:

  • Hiring and maintaining a workforce that is at least 75% minority individuals including women, veterans, people of color, 2SLGBTQIA+, and persons with disabilities.
  • Donations to its host communities including monies allocated to local schools and charities
  • Increase marijuana education and make cannabis industry information readily available to disproportionately harmed people;
  • Providing free consulting services to disproportionately harmed entrepreneurs;
  • Providing low interest loans and general business support to businesses owned by disproportionately harmed people; and
  • Hiring at least 50% of our staff from the surrounding disproportionately impacted communities.
